High surf for east shores
High surf is expected along the Big Island’s east-facing shores through this morning, according to the National Weather Service.
Strong trade winds will lead to elevated and rough surf, with approximately 6 to 8 foot tall waves with occasional higher sets on the affected coastlines, said officials at the Honolulu Forecast Office. A high surf advisory was still in effect as of press time Thursday.
Strong breaking waves, a pounding shore break, as well as strong longshore and rip currents will make swimming difficult and dangerous. Beachgoers, swimmers and surfers should heed all advice given by ocean safety officials and exercise caution.
