What stories have shaped our collective consciousness, our world? What new stories can we tell that will uphold and protect the sanctity of all life?

These questions are at the center of “Invaders of the Heart: The Return,” a new dance theater production from New Mexico-based choreographer and director Myra Krien.

This performance marks the 26th annual “Invaders of the Heart” production from Krien and Pomegranate Studios.

The cast is made up of dancers from Krien’s Mosaic Dance Company, local Big Island dancers, as well as guest artists from across the country, including Cecilia Rinn and The Starbelly Dancers from Boise, Idaho, and Drake von Trapp and Kamrah from Chicago.

This multimedia production not only features dance, but the exquisite artwork of painter Michael Bergt.

According to a press release, “by exploring ancient symbols of rebirth, renewal, ecstasy and our inextricable interconnectedness with the natural world, this powerful and visually stunning performance looks to the past as a touchstone for examining our present and building our collective future.”

“Invaders of the Heart: The Return” runs at 7 p.m. for one night only this Saturday at the Barn at the Kohala Village Inn in Hawi.
