KEALAKEHE — The second Big Island Interscholastic Federation (BIIF) track and field meet of 2025 took place Saturday at Kealakehe High School’s Waverider Stadium, hosting all athletes on the Kona side for the first time this season.
In the day’s running events, Konawaena junior speedster Violet Schaut headlined the races once again, winning in the girls 100-meter (12.31s), 200-meter (24.84s) and the 400-meter (57.88s) sprints. In just two meets this season, Schaut has won five races and two personal-best times in the 100 and 200-meter runs.
Schaut’s teammate, sophomore Kea Sanders, won the 100-meter dash for the second straight week after running in 11.40s. Sanders had a personal-best time of 11.22s in the race a week ago in Hilo. Sanders also placed second in the 200-meter race and won the boys high jump (5-05.00).
Kealakehe junior Jackson Rigg won the boys 200-meter sprint with a personal-best time of 23.20s.
Kealakehe junior long-distance phenom Elisa Childers saw the podium, winning in the girls 1,500-meter run (5:15.63) and 3,000-meter run in a season-best 10:54.06. Childers’ teammate, fellow junior Grace Anderle, notched a personal best in her second-place finish in the 1500, finishing in 5:17.82. Anderle also earned a personal record of 2:32.27 in the girls 800-meter run, in which she won.
Over in the boys 1500, Waiakea junior Shane Tominaga notched a season-best 4:20.83 in his first-place finish. In the boys 3,000-meter race, Hilo junior River Flynn won with a personal-best finish of 10:07.40, beating second-place finisher Tyler Tina of Kamehameha Schools-Hawai‘i by over 30 seconds.
Waiakea sophomore Keiari Weaver won with a personal record of 17.63s in the girls 200-meter hurdle race. Weaver also notched a season-best time in her win in the 300-meter hurdles, racing in 54.11s. Waiakea sophomore Judah Kanoa had himself a day in the boys hurdles, securing a personal-record win in the 110-meter (15.49s) and winning the 300-meter race in 40.98s. Kanoa also won the same races in Week 1.
In the girls 4×100-meter relay, Konawaena’s team of Schaut, Dasha Kala, Jazmin Fillmore, Kaella Masters secured a season-best time in its win, racing in 49.48s.
The field events were once again highlighted by Hawaii Preparatory Academy senior Elaina Head, who won the girls high jump (5-01.00) and triple jump (32-10.50) while also placing in the top five in discus (82-03) and long jump (15-01.75). Through two weeks of the season, Head has won five field events.
Elias Malapit of Konawaena set a season-best distance during his win in the boys discus, throwing a distance of 46.05 meters (151-01). Joenica Sy-Rondaris clinched a personal record in the girls pole vault, leaping 2.51 meters (8-03.00) in her first-place finish.
The sibling pair of senior Amari and freshman Analei Wiedemeier made noise in the running and field events, as Amari Wiedemeier won the boys triple jump (41.07-00) and 800-meter run (2:06.46) while Analei Wiedemeier placed first overall in girls discus with a top throw of 26.62 meters (87-04).
