Marian Mae Johnson

Marian Mae Johnson, 88, of Hawi died Jan. 9 in Keaau. Born in Hilo, she was a retired Kohala Elementary School teacher, avid tennis player and member of Hawi Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Visitation 2-3 p.m. Thursday, Mar. 27, at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Memorial service at 3 p.m. Graveside urn committal service 10 a.m. Friday, Mar. 28, for her and her husband, John Franklin Johnson, at Homelani Memorial Park. Survived by siblings, Urban Carvalho of Denver, Lionel (Laurine) Carvalho of Volcano, Glenn Carvalho of Pepeekeo and Patricia Thornberg of Junction City, Kan.; nieces, nephews and cousins. Glenda Ganiron Nicolas

Glenda Ganiron Nicolas, 62, of Keaau died Feb. 18 at Hilo Benioff Medical Center. Born in Sarat, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, and was a hair stylist at Jagged Edge Salon and member of Pahoa Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Visitation 4-6 p.m. Friday (March 21) at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Wake service at 6 p.m. Visitation again 8-9 a.m. Saturday (March 22) at Pahoa Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Mass at 9 a.m. Burial to follow at Homelani Memorial Park. Casual attire. Debra Lei Saragosa, 67, of Mountain View died Jan. 19 at Hilo Benioff Medical Center. Born in Honolulu, she was retired executive secretary for the state Employment Office and member of St. Theresa Catholic Church. Celebration of life 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday, March 23, at AJA Veterans Hall, 361 Haihai St. in Hilo. Survived by husband, Jonathan Saragosa of Mountain View; daughter, Jonell Saragosa of Idaho; son Jonathan “BJ” (Christina) Saragosa of Mountain View; siblings, Jesse (Steve) Stein of Keaau, Albert Estabilio of Hilo and Sherrie Estabilio of Honolulu; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Larry Sunao Tanimoto

Larry Sunao Tanimoto, 80, of Waimea died Feb. 27 at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born in Hilo, he was the mayor of Hawaii County in 1990, also served as managing director and Parks and Recreation director, served as minority whip in the state House of Representatives, club pro at Waikoloa Beach Golf Course, member of the University of Hawaii Board of Regents, member of University of Hawaii Na Koa football booster club and UH Sports Circle of Honor, first golf scholarship athlete at UH-Manoa, where he participated in two NCAA Division II Championships and the U.S. Amateur Open, owner/operator of LST Inc., and elder of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-days Saints, Waimea 2nd Ward. Visitation 9-10:30 a.m. Saturday (Mar. 22) at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Waimea 2nd Ward, 65-1160 Kapiolani Rd. in Waimea. Service at 10:30 a.m. No flowers or koden (monetary gifts). Survived by spouse, Merle Nada Tanimoto; son, Aaron (Kate) Tanimoto; daughter, Jean Tanimoto; two grandchildren. George Winslow Kalani Vierra

George Winslow Kalani Vierra, 81, of Naalehu died Jan. 22 at Hilo Benioff Medical Center. Born in Pahala, he was a heavy equipment operator for the former Ka‘u Agribusiness (Ka‘u Sugar), member of Naalehu Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Hui O Ka‘u Pa‘u Riders and Ka‘u Multi-cultural Society, and U.S. Army veteran. Visitation 8:30-9 a.m. Saturday (March 22) at Naalehu Community Center. The late Marcelino “Celino” Acain Ganancial is survived by, among others, daughter Elflida (Jose) Luis. An incorrect name for her husband was submitted for an obituary published Thursday.
