Feds indict Mexican national indicted for drug trafficking
Acting U.S. Attorney Kenneth M. Sorenson announced Wednesday that a federal grand jury returned an indictment against 59-year-old Enrique Gonzalez Jacobo, 59, of Mexico, charging him with attempting to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine and being an illegal alien present in the U.S. after having been previously convicted of a felony and deported.
According to information presented in court, Jacobo has been deported to Mexico at least four times and has three prior felony convictions related to drug trafficking.
In July 2024, Jacobo was located in Hilo, after having been removed from the U.S., and was arrested while attempting to take possession of a package containing more than 5 pounds of methamphetamine hidden inside a stuffed animal.
If convicted of the charged offenses, Jacobo faces a potential sentence of up to life in prison, a mandatory minimum of 10 years imprisonment, and a fine of up to $10 million.
