During the week of Feb. 17-23, Hawaii Island police arrested 18 motorists for DUI.

Six of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash. One of the drivers was under the age of 21.

The numbers of arrests by district were: Kona, seven; Hilo and Puna, five each; and South Kohala, one.

So far this year, there have been 145 DUI arrests compared to 150 during the same period last year, a decrease of 3.33%.

There have been 136 major crashes so far this year, compared to 134 major crashes during the same time last year, an increase of 1.5%.

To date, there have been eight official traffic fatalities compared to five fatalities for the same time last year, an increase of 60%.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide, police said.
