Earlier this month, the Big Island Interscholastic Federation (BIIF) released the All-BIIF teams for Division I and II girls soccer, and many familiar faces were named.
HHSAA Division II state champion Kamehameha Schools Hawai‘i dominated the Division II team, earning nine of the team’s 12 spots. The Lady Warriors won the DII state title in a close 2-1 match over Mid-Pacific on Feb. 3 — posting a 13-1-1 overall record, 8-1-1 in league play and logging a 65-4 goal differential. They claimed their first state championship since 2008.
Junior midfielder Madisyn Meyers was selected to the DII team, also being named DII Player of the Year. The prestigious award for Meyers comes as no surprise, as Meyers led the champs in goals with 17 total. She posted four goals in the state playoffs, and scored KSH’s lone goal against Hawaii Preparatory Academy in the BIIF DII Championship on Jan. 22.
The Lady Warriors other top goal scorers — freshman defender Kahalia Huddleston (nine goals), freshman forward Lily Kay-Wong (seven goals), freshman forward Inalei Haunga (five goals) and junior midfielder Alyssa Hudman (four goals) — made the team.
KSH junior goalie Lahela Cootey, who played a massive role in the Lady Warriors’ 11 shutouts, was also named to the team. Junior forward Rhacelyn Respicio, junior midfielder Mikaila Aina and junior back Liliana Chandler made up the rest of the Lady Warriors named to the team.
HPA, who finished second in the BIIF and qualified for the state playoffs, had two selections to the team — top goal scorer junior midfielder Madie Buczyna and junior back Tae Detwiler. Honoka‘a senior back Alise Nakano rounded out the rest of the team with a selection.
In the Division I team, Waiakea had five selections after finishing the season 12-2-0 overall, 11-1-0 in the BIIF and a 69-10 goal differential. The team won BIIF DI with a 2-0 win over Hilo on Jan. 22. The Lady Warriors fell to Waipahu in double overtime of the state quarterfinals.
Senior midfielder Charlie Silva of Waiakea was selected to the prestigious team, also being named BIIF DI Player of the Year. She finished 2024-25 with seven goals.
Waiakea senior forward Kalia Franklin, who led the team in goals with 14, made the team. Junior midfielder Ailani Franklin, senior back Megan Nakamura-Nirei and junior back Sadee Tamanaha rounded out the rest of the Lady Warriors that were selected.
BIIF DI runner-up Hilo also had five selections after finishing 7-4-1 overall. Senior goalie Keolako Maka‘imoku, senior forward Hulali Halpern, junior midfielder Aneala Sibayan, senior midfielder Lindsey Hiraki and senior back Maiya Kepoo-DeConte were the Lady Vikings selected.
Kealakehe senior forward Nai‘a Garana and Konawaena junior back Ava Shoosmith made up the rest of the DI team.
