Cynthia May Hayashi, 74, of Kealakekua died on Feb. 7 at Islands Hospice on Maui. She loved animals, nature, art, music, and Japanese culture and was a prolific and talented artist with a special fondness for painting outdoor scenes. Private scattering of ashes planned. She is survived by brother, Jon (Amy) Hayashi and half-sister Marcia Nishino. Arrangements by Nakamura Mortuary, Maui.

Ronald Kaliko Sr., 74, of Kealakekua died Dec. 20 after a brief illness. He was a landscaper, rock wall builder and an ‘Ambassador of Aloha.’ A celebration of life will be held from 4-10 p.m. on March 1 at the pavilion at Old Kona Airport Beach Park. Thomas Eugene Coleman, 80, of Captain Cook died on Dec. 25. Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, he was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and a member of Keauhou Volleyball Association and Keauhou Canoe Club. Private services to be held. Lucila “Luz” Tabay Velez, 87, of Keaau died Jan. 30 at Hilo Benioff Medical Center. Born in Cebu City, Philippines, she was a retired picker for Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Co. and seamstress.
