About the so-called
‘opinionated’ news
Those reading “Request for Less Opinionated News” (West Hawaii Today, Feb. 4) might wonder why the writer claims Hawaii is a “very red voting state.”
The 2024 election results for Hawaii statewide were as follows: 313,094 votes for Harris, 193,661 for Trump. Big Island: 52,163 votes for Harris 28,748 votes for Trump.
As an English teacher, I encouraged my students to do research before jumping to conclusions. For example, the headline “No Collusion” was different from actually reading the 818-page Mueller Report to learn the existing verifiable legal evidence that convicted 13 Russians of tampering to help get Donald Trump elected in 2016.
Trump claiming he’d have nothing to do with Project 2025 was different than actually reading the 900-page proposal and recognizing that Trump is now writing executive orders that carry out the radical plan of dismantling our constitutional government framework.
Trump, Truth Social and X, etc., talk about “left-leaning” sources spreading “hatred for all things Donald Trump.” Why don’t Trump followers ever wonder whether any concrete, tangible evidence exists to back up such vague assertions?
Did they watch live footage of the Jan. 6 (2021) riot at the Capitol (or believe Fox’s edited version)? Did they watch the Jan. 6 hearings and listen to Republican politicians and Trump aides giving sworn testimony (something Trump has never done)?
Claiming WHT is “hell-bent on framing everything Trump or conservatives do in the worst possible light” is quite a vast leap from factual reporting and legal proof of Trump’s unconstitutional chaos.

In response to an
Obenski column
I’d like to comment on Ken Obenski’s “As I See It: The president.”
Obenski states, “Regardless of our personal feelings about the new president, it is in our best interest to show respect and encourage his administration to do what’s best for America, even if policy does not meet our approval, maybe sometimes he is right!”
We are supposed to “wait and see” while our critical workforce is rounded up and deported without any due process? Even heartless and selfish rich racists need workers. And they want their veggies and meat. How are they going to blame liberals while looking at the empty shelves or astronomical prices in the supermarkets?
In 1933, Hitler became the chancellor of Germany after being appointed by President Paul von Hindenburg. However, in 1934, after Hindenburg’s death, Hitler consolidated power and became the führer (leader) of Germany.
No doubt there were some in pre-Nazi Germany who said, “”Regardless of our personal feelings about the new chancellor, it is in our best interest to show respect and encourage his administration to do what’s best for Germany, even if policy does not meet our approval, maybe sometimes he is right!”
