Schedule meetings at
a more convenient time
Many residents have already testified that the General Plan 2045 is more of a United Nations’ globalist imposition than a reflection of local goals and values.
A lot of people still don’t know the draft plan exists or when and where the upcoming meetings will be held.
As the Hawaii County is nearing the end of the public testimony period, it would be best to schedule the final community hearings at a convenient time after work hours and/or on a Saturday morning.
The “Sunshine Law” was created to make government more open and accessible. Many of us want to see the county make it easier for residents to show up and speak out to let the sunshine in right now.
Hawaii County needs a government that listens more to its people than to the U.N. and outside “stakeholders.”
Let’s help to make our island the aloha model for the world. Thank you.

PET machine needed
for cancer patients
In the article, “Big changes ahead for W. Hawaii health care” (Jan. 26), it states that both Kona Community Hospital and Kohala Hospital are expanding their diagnostic services.
I appeal to Community First Hawaii, a nonprofit serving as a convener and catalyst for solutions to improve health and access to health care.
A CT (computed tomography) scanner is planned, but why not a PET (positron emission tomography) machine, which would save many of us cancer patients from flying to Oahu a couple times a year?
Cancer diagnoses are increasing, especially among Millennials and Gen-Xers, according to the American Cancer Society.

Trump is subverting
the US Constitution
At his inauguration, the president promised to “preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”
In the few short days since then, he has tried to abolish birthright citizenship (in direct opposition to the 14th Amendment.) He has fired 17 inspectors general without notifying Congress, a direct violation of the law.
He has halted billions of dollars of funds for programs passed into law by Congress — in effect unilaterally repealing them. In short, he has acted illegally and ignored the separation of powers required by the Constitution.
If he is unwilling to obey his oath of office and perform the job he has been given, he should resign immediately and give the job to someone who actually understands the Constitution.
We’re waiting.
