HILO — Hilo girls soccer’s season came to a close Monday afternoon at Hilo Bayfront, falling to Moanalua 3-1 in the opening round of the HHSAA Division I Girls Soccer Tournament.
Na Menehune scored the first three goals — Erin Lam in the 39th minute and Ryah Echavaria in the 61st and 63rd. Lindsey Hiraki finally got the Lady Vikings on the board in the 68th minute, but Hilo wasn’t able to spark any more offense for a late-match comeback.
The Lady Vikings finished the season 7-4-1 overall, placing second in Big Island Interscholastic Federation (BIIF) Division I. The peak of Hilo’s season came earlier this month, where the Lady Vikings won four consecutive matches with a 28-3 goal differential. It was also the ninth consecutive HHSAA tournament that Hilo clinched.
Moanalua soared to 11-3-0 overall, and will next face fellow O‘ahu Interscholastic Federation (BIIF) opponent No. 2 Mililani in the quarterfinals at 3 p.m. Thursday at Waipi‘o Peninsula Soccer Complex Field No. 7.
Na Menehune has been clicking at the right time at this point in the season — winning three straight.
KSH 9, MLCA 0
No. 1 seed Kamehameha Schools-Hawai‘i boys soccer qualified for tonight’s CPB/BIIF Division II Boys Soccer Championship after routing fourth-seeded Makua Lani Christian Academy in the semifinals Monday in Kea‘au. The Warriors won 9-0.
KSH’s Micah Chung, who leads the team in goals this season, led the way with an impressive four-goal performance. Teammate Ryder Okamura added two more, while William Henderson, Xander Hoopai and Gabriel Arquitola scored one each.
The Warriors remained unbeaten on the season at 10-0-0 overall, notching their fourth shutout win and adding to their impressive 58-8 goal differential.
They’ll face Hawaii Preparatory Academy for the DI crown at 5 p.m. tonight at Julian R. Yates Field. The two teams last met on Dec. 7, 2024, when KSH won a close 2-1 match.
The Lions season ends at 2-7-0. Their two wins came against Parker on Dec. 3, 2024 and Honoka‘a on Jan. 3.
HPA 5, Honoka‘a 0
HPA boys soccer shut out Honoka‘a 5-0 in the BIIF DII semifinals Monday afternoon in Waimea, set to face the KSH Warriors at Konawaena High School tonight to compete for the conference title. It was the sixth shutout for Ka Makani this season.
Kena Craven and Chazz Pagano led the winners in scoring with two goals apiece. Skye Raymond also added a goal.
HPA moved to 7-2-1 overall on the season, posting a 44-5 goal differential thus far. It was also the second time the group beat the Dragons, as it won 6-0 in its season-opening match on Nov. 26, 2024.
Although Ka Makani fell in its only match to KSH this season, it will have a shot of redemption against the Warriors tonight for the BIIF DII crown.
Honoka‘a’s season ends at 2-6-0. The team’s two wins came against Konawaena on Dec. 21, 2024 and Jan. 7 at Parker.
Hilo 5, Waiakea 2
First-seeded Hilo boys soccer won its BIIF DI semifinal matchup against local rival No. 4 Waiakea on Monday afternoon at Hilo Bayfront. The Vikings won 5-2.

Hilo moved to 7-1-1, winning its sixth straight. The Vikings will next play fellow east-side opponent Kea‘au at 7 p.m. tonight in the CPB/BIIF Division I Boys Soccer Championship at Julian R. Yates Field. Regardless of the outcome, both teams are expected to compete in the HHSAA tournament, which begins Monday.
The Warriors season ends at 3-5-2. Waiakea struggled to find consistency in 2024-25, never winning two consecutive matches.
Kea‘au 3, Kealakehe 1
Third-seeded Kea‘au boys soccer punched its ticket to tonight’s BIIF DI finals after a 3-1 upset win over No. 2 Kealakehe in the semifinals Monday afternoon at Waverider Stadium. The Cougars got their vengeance on the Waveriders after falling 5-1 to them in their opening match of the season on Dec. 7, 2024.

Kea‘au, now expected to play in the HHSAA tournament next week, will have an opportunity to clinch the BIIF crown at Konawaena High School tonight against No. 1 Hilo. The winner will be awarded the higher seed in the state field. See Friday’s paper to read the results.
Kealakehe’s season has officially ended at 3-3-2. The ‘Riders strongest stretch of the season came in the first three matches, when the blue and white went 3-0-0 with a 15-1 goal differential (wins against Kea‘au, MLCA and Waiakea).
