BIIF hoops: Kohala sweeps weekend slate; Daggers, Cougars and Canefire collect wins

The winners got off to a blistering start, out-scoring the hosts 17-5, which set the tone for the remainder of the night.
The Cowgirls’ Adriana Soriano, who averages 12.5 points per game, dropped a team-high 17 points while going 6-for-6 at the charity stripe. Teammate Loryn-Rose Cavalho added 16 points with two 3-pointers. Kalia Marquez also added eight.
On the Lady Warriors’ side, top scorer Kacie Feebo-Santiago added 23 points with two 3-point field goals made. Her top teammate, Shailan Benevides, had four.
Kohala soared to 10-2 overall and 5-1 in the BIIF, while KSH dropped to 9-5 overall and 7-2 in island play. The Cowgirls next test will come against Christian Liberty Academy at 6 p.m. tonight inside King Kamehameha Park Gymnasium. The Lady Warriors will host east-side rival Waiakea at 5:30 p.m. this evening at KSH’s campus.
Kohala 73, Kealakehe 57
Kohala boys basketball out-scored Kealakehe 25-4 during the first quarter of Saturday’s matchup in Kapa‘au, setting the tone for the 73-57 victory.
The Cowboys’ Royden Tabiolo notched a team-high 24 points with six 3-pointers made, followed by teammates Isaac Salvador-Libron, Jayden Hook and Lucky Kobeney combined for 35. Hezekiah Wilson also added eight points.
The Waveriders were led by DeMarion Olloway, who scored a game-high 26 points. Running mate Estavon Morales finished with 10 points, while Michael Miller had nine.
Kohala remains to be dominant in island play, now at 4-0 in the BIIF and 6-5 overall. The defending DII state champions also took on Konawaena late Monday night at home. See Wednesday’s paper to read the results.
Kealakehe moved to 5-4 overall and 2-2 in the BIIF. The ‘Riders will next take on Laupahoehoe at 6 p.m. Thursday on the Hamakua Coast.
Pahoa 48, Hilo 35
Pahoa girls basketball continued to roll on Friday against Hilo in Hilo town, winning 48-35 to move to 8-1 on the season.
Sophia Moniz, who averages 17 points per game for the Lady Daggers this season, finished with a team-high 17 points with three 3-point field goals converted. Teammate Ariana Kobayashi added 12 with two 3s.
Anuhea Ferreira, the Lady Vikings’ top scorer, scored a game-high 19 points, followed by teammate Tianna Cabbab with seven.
Now with four straight victories, Pahoa will look to extend the streak tonight against Kealakehe at home. Tipoff is slated for 6 p.m.
Hilo (4-9 overall, 3-4 BIIF) played Ka‘u late Monday night at home. See Wednesday’s paper for the results.
Kea‘au 38, Honoka‘a 23
After falling to Waiakea before the new year, Kea‘au girls basketball bounced back in a big way Friday against Honoka‘a at home, winning 38-23.
The Lady Cougars’ Tiani Kaupu, Raychelle Ducusin and Lenzy Adlawan combined for 26 points, while the Lady’ Dragons Megan Murkane scored eight.
Kea‘au (3-6) will look to keep building on its win with its next matchup against Kohala, slated for 5:30 p.m. Thursday in Kapa‘au. Junior varsity will tip off first. Honoka‘a (4-8 overall, 4-6 BIIF) played HPA late Monday night inside Castle Gymnasium. See Wednesday’s paper to read the results.
Kea‘au 73, Parker 35
Kea‘au boys basketball had a successful road trip Saturday to Waimea, beating the hosting Parker Bulls 73-35 to improve to 5-1.
The paper was unable to obtain a list of the top scorers for this game.
The Cougars have won four straight, and will look to add to their streak with their next matchup against HPA at 5 p.m. Saturday inside Castle Gymnasium.
The Bulls (0-7 overall, 0-5 BIIF) are still in search of win No. 1 of 2024-25. They’ll return to the floor against Pahoa at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at home.
CLA 54, Kealakehe 21
Christian Liberty Academy girls basketball collected its first win since Dec. 6 with a 54-21 beatdown over Kealakehe on Saturday in Kona town. The Canefire improved to 2-7 overall.

CLA will next face Kohala at 6 p.m. tonight on the road. The Lady Waveriders (0-8 overall, 0-7 BIIF) next play Pahoa at 6 p.m. tonight on the road.
