The addition of three new members to the PacWest Conference (Jessup, Menlo and Vanguard) at the beginning of the 2024-25 school year has dawned an altered conference lineup with all PacWest series now three games instead of four for the three Hawai’i schools. Hawai’i Hilo, Chaminade and HPU will play one another six teams during conference play.
After opening the season with the annual Alumni Game on Jan. 25 (of which fourth-year head coach Aisha Sueda ‘13 is a regular participant), the Vulcans will take a trip up to Irvine, California for the Concordia Kickoff Classic (Jan. 31 – Feb. 2).
The first home game is set for Feb. 26-27 against HPU, but Hawai’i Hilo will have 11 contests on O’ahu through most of the month of February taking part of the Ulili Softball Invitational (Feb. 6-7) with other non-conference matchups set against Cal Poly Humboldt (Feb. 8) and Western Washington (Feb. 15). Eight of the Vulcans’ non-conference foes enter the season having a wealth of postseason experience in 2024, highlighted by Western Washington’s NCAA National Championship Runner-Up finish along with deep runs by Cal State Dominguez Hills, Lewis University (Illinois) and Cal State San Marcos. Newcomer Jessup is also coming off a NAIA World Series Runner-Up finish.
The Vulcans will host three-game PacWest Conference series against HPU, defending PacWest Champion Concordia (March 1-2), Azusa Pacific (March 7-8), Vanguard (April 4-5), Biola (April 11-12) and Chaminade (April 18-19). Hawai’i Hilo will travel to Northern California to take on Academy of Art (March 14-15), Jessup (March 17-18), Dominican (March 21-22) and Menlo (March 24-25) before closing out the regular season on O’ahu against HPU (April 25-26).
The four-team PacWest Championships postseason tournament is set for Apr. 30 to May 2 in Irvine, Calif.
Hawai’i Hilo posted a 26-17 record in 2024 with a third-place finish in the PacWest Tournament.
