Lloyd headlines Hall of Fame class

Former United States women’s star Carli Lloyd, a two-time FIFA Player of the Year, is part of the five-member 2025 National Soccer Hall of Fame class, the entity announced Tuesday. Lloyd played on two Women’s World Cup championship teams (2015, 2019) with the United States women’s national team and also won Olympic gold medals in 2008 and 2012.

Vikings designate Reichard off IR

Minnesota Vikings rookie kicker Will Reichard and long snapper Andrew DePaola were designated to return from injured reserve on Tuesday. The move opens a 21-day window for both players to be activated by the team.

Al-Shaair suspended 3 games

Houston Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair was suspended three games by the NFL on Tuesday after his weekend hit on Trevor Lawrence resulted in the Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback being carted off the field. The NFL cited in its statement that Al-Shaair’s “repeated violations of rules intended to protect the health and safety of players and promote sportsmanship” were considered in the suspension.

Return on hold for Vanderbilt

Jarred Vanderbilt’s return to the Los Angeles Lakers will take longer than expected. The Lakers said in a statement Tuesday that a setback in his recovery from offseason surgery has left the forward with fluid in his left knee, and that he isn’t expected to play until 2025. The team originally hoped he could return in November.

Wood suspended 6 games

The NFL suspended Tennessee Titans safety Julius Wood six games on Tuesday for violating the policy on performing-enhancing substances. There are five games remaining this season for the Titans (3-9), so Wood’s suspension will bleed into Week 1 of 2025.

Millsap officially retires

Four-time All-Star forward Paul Millsap has officially retired, he told ESPN on Tuesday. Millsap earned all his All-Star appearances with the Atlanta Hawks (2013-17) and also was a stalwart for the Utah Jazz (2006-13) during his 16-year career.

49ers claim Abanikanda off waivers

The San Francisco 49ers claimed running back Israel Abanikanda off waivers from the New York Jets on Tuesday, one day after placing running backs Christian McCaffrey and Jordan Mason on injured reserve. The Jets released Abanikanda on Monday after adding Kene Nwangwu to the active roster. Nwagwu had been a practice-squad elevation for the Jets last Sunday against Seattle and returned a kickoff for a touchdown in the game.
