POIPU — Kauai’s Poipu Bay Golf Course announced that all 18-holes of its course are officially reopened, after an extensive greenside bunker restoration project aimed at enhancing the playing experience and preserving the course’s historical integrity. The project, which began in mid-August, revitalized Poipu Bay’s iconic greenside bunkers, ensuring they met modern standards while honoring their original design.
The restoration involved extensive work on 48 greenside bunkers throughout the course, focusing on improving the drainage system, moisture mitigation, and aesthetics to enhance both playability and consistency of the bunkers.
Poipu Bay utilized quality materials from local vendors and techniques that align with sustainable practices, certifying that the greenside bunkers contribute to the overall environmental stewardship of the property.
“We are thrilled to unveil the results of this restoration,” Director of Golf Chad Dusenberry said. “The greenside bunkers are a significant part of our course’s character, and we are committed to maintaining their beauty and functionality for our guests. This project is a testament to our dedication to providing an exceptional golfing experience.”
The revitalized greenside bunkers feature an enhanced drainage system that prevents water accumulation while maintaining the necessary moisture for optimal playing conditions. Additionally, preserves the course’s authentic design by restoring the greenside bunkers to their original form, capturing its historical essence.
Prior to the greenside bunker restoration project, Poipu Bay completed a year-long multi-million-dollar irrigation renovation in March 2024.
“We are committed to investing in the integrity of the golf course to ensure it meets high standards of quality and excellence for our guests and staff,” Director of Kawailoa Development Hiroki Matsuda, owner representative of Poipu Bay Golf Course, added.
Designed by renowned golf course architect Robert Trent Jones Jr., Poipu Bay Golf Course is set between lush mountains and rugged ocean bluffs on the south shore of Kauai.
