The Big Island Interscholastic Federation (BIIF) football season continued over the weekend. Most squads have one game remaining in their regular-season slates.

Honoka‘a 27, HPA 17

Honoka‘a football avenged Hawaii Preparatory Academy with a 27-17 win over Ka Makani on Friday night in Honoka‘a town. The Dragons fell to HPA on Sept. 14, but were able to leapfrog the red and white in the BIIF DII standings at 6-3 (6-4 overall).

West Hawaii Today and the Hawaii Tribune-Herald were unable to obtain a stat sheet from this game by Tuesday’s deadline.

Now in the official No. 2 spot in the division, Honoka‘a will look to close their regular season on a high note with a 1 p.m. Saturday match in Pahala against Ka‘u. In the last meeting between the two programs, the Dragons won a 64-32 shootout.

Thus far, Honoka‘a has averaged 32 points per game while allowing just over 20.

HPA fell to 5-3 in the BIIF. Ka Makani will get an opportunity to redeem itself against Pahoa at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hawaii Preparatory Academy. When the two schools last met on Sept. 19, HPA won 49-6.

Ka Makani is averaging 34 points per game and allowing just over 17 this season — still remaining the top rushing team on the island.

Hilo 49, Kealakehe 0

Hilo football earned its second shutout of Kealakehe this season with a 49-0 beatdown on Friday at Waverider Stadium. The Vikings moved to 4-3 in BIIF DI (one game behind second-placed Kea‘au in the standings), averaging 30 points per game while allowing just under 22.

West Hawaii Today and the Hawaii Tribune-Herald were unable to obtain a stat sheet from this game by Tuesday’s deadline.

Kealakehe remained in the cellar of the division’s standings at 0-8. Per ScoringLive, the Waveriders’ season has ended.

Hilo will conclude its regular-season schedule with a short turnaround against Waiakea — slated to kick off Thursday night at Wong Stadium.

Kea‘au 47, Waiakea 0

For the second time in 2024, Kea‘au football shut out Waiakea on Saturday in Hilo. The 5-2 (BIIF) Cougars have outscored the Warriors 108-0 this season.

Remaining in second overall in BIIF Division I, Kea‘au will close its regular season slate by traveling to the Kona side to face BIIF-undefeated Konawaena on Friday night at Julian R. Yates Field. When the two schools last met on Sept. 20 in Kea‘au, the Wildcats won 49-6.

Waiakea (2-6 overall, 2-5 BIIF) next plays Hilo on Thursday night to end its season.

When the two Hilo schools last played on Sept. 21, the Vikings won 70-18.

KSH at Ka‘u forfeit

Ka‘u football, scheduled hosts of Saturday’s game against Kamehameha Schools-Hawai‘i, decided to forfeit the afternoon matchup. The Warriors earned the win from the decision.

BIIF Division II-leading KSH (10-1 overall, 9-0 BIIF) will close its season hosting Kohala on Friday night in Kea‘au.

The Trojans (1-7) will host Honoka‘a on Saturday afternoon to close out their 2024 season.
