The Big Island Interscholastic Federation (BIIF) girls volleyball regular season continued to wrap up Wednesday across the isle. Playoffs are slated to begin tonight. The regular season wrapped up late Thursday night with Hilo hosting Kamehameha Schools-Hawai‘i. See Saturday’s paper to read the results.

HPA 3, Kona 0

After falling in four sets to the green and white on Sept. 11, Hawaii Preparatory Academy girls volleyball avenged Konawaena on Wednesday night inside Ellison Onizuka Gymnasium — winning in straight sets to close out its regular season and clinch the top spot in BIIF Division II at 15-1.

Ka Makani won the first set comfortably, 25-10 — but the last two frames were a dogfight. However, HPA dug deep and escaped by scores of 26-24 and 27-25. After earning the outright No. 1 seed in DII, Ka Makani will enjoy a double-bye (No. 1 in BIIF DII West) alongside Ka‘u (No. 1 in BIIF DII East), automatically qualifying for Tuesday’s semifinals match inside Castle Gymnasium. HPA’s opponent will be determined after upcoming matches over the next few days.

The Wildcats fell to 14-3 after winning three consecutive. They’ll be well positioned to go far in the Division I tournament, as they earned the No. 1 seed in BIIF DI West — clinching a bye. Kona’s first matchup is to be announced.

JV: HPA wins 2-0 — 25-13, 25-11.

KSH 3, Ka‘u 0

KS-Hawai‘i girls volleyball was victorious once again after coasting to victory over Ka‘u on Wednesday in Pahala. The Warriors handled the Trojans in straight sets — 25-11, 25-12 and 25-22.

The winners were led by setter Maile Kuamo‘o, who dished out 13 assists. Teammates Mia Polloi and Camryn Grace combined for 11 kills, while Kealohi Dudoit posted four service aces.

KS-Hawai‘i (15-0), regardless of Thursday’s result against Hilo, earned the outright No. 1 seed in the BIIF DI playoffs and will earn a first-round bye in the first round of the BIIF Division I playoffs (East) alongside Konawaena (No. 1 seed in BIIF DI West). The Warriors’ BIIF semifinals matchup is to be determined.

Ka‘u earned the No. 1 seed in BIIF DII East at 10-6, and will have a double-bye in its playoff field. The Trojans’ first matchup is yet to be announced.

JV: KSH wins 2-0 — 25-12, 25-8.

Waiakea 3, Pahoa 0

Waiakea girls volleyball beat the Daggers in straight sets Wednesday in Pahoa town — staying in the top half of the BIIF Division I standings.

West Hawaii Today and Hawaii Tribune-Herald were unable to obtain the set scores by Friday’s deadline.

With the win, Waiakea (13-3) remains in the mix for the second or third seed in the DI East side of the bracket (as of late Thursday afternoon). The Warriors’ next matchup will be decided once seeding is finalized today.

Pahoa ended their regular season at 7-9.
