The Big Island Interscholastic Federation (BIIF) girls volleyball season continued Wednesday across the isle. Island playoffs are slated to begin Oct. 18.
HPA 3, Parker 1
Hawaii Preparatory Academy girls volleyball proved to be local rival Parker’s kryptonite once again on Wednesday inside Waimea District Park Gymnasium. Ka Makani beat the Bulls for the second time this season, being the only team to beat Parker in 2024.
HPA won by competitive scores of 25-22, 25-21, 19-25 and 25-18.
Now that the Bulls have two losses on the year at 14-2, Ka Makani moved ahead of them in the No. 1 spot in BIIF Division II at 13-1. The two Waimea institutions have been atop of the DII standings for almost the entire season.
HPA will have a quick turnaround for its next match — slated to play Kona school Makua Lani Christian Academy at 5 p.m. tonight inside Castle Gymnasium. Junior varsity will play first.
Parker’s next match is to be announced.
JV: HPA wins 2-0 — 25-18, 25-18.
Honoka‘a 3, MLCA 0
Honoka‘a girls volleyball moved to .500 on the season with a straight-sets victory over Makua Lani on Wednesday night in Honoka‘a town.
The Dragons won 25-11, 25-16 and 25-14 — improving to 7-7 overall and clmaining the fifth-place spot in BIIF DII. They’ll be challenged in their next match against Konawaena at 5 p.m. tonight in Honoka‘a town. Junior varsity will get things going first.
The Lions dropped to 0-15, remaining in last in their division. They’ll travel to Kamuela tonight to face HPA inside Castle Gymnasium.
Hilo 3, CLA 0
Hilo girls volleyball moved to second place over Konawaena in BIIF Division I after a straight-sets win over Christian Liberty Academy on Wednesday in Kea‘au.
The Vikings took care of business quickly, winning 25-6, 25-5 and 25-10. They remain a half-game ahead of the Wildcats at 11-1. They’ll next travel south to play DII powerhouse Ka‘u at 10 a.m. Saturday in Pahala.
CLA dropped to 1-12, near the bottom of BIIF DII’s rankings. The Canefire will turn the page to tonight’s match — hosting Ka Umeke at 5 p.m. at home.
