Eli Kaui Akana Nahulu

Eli Kaui Akana Nahulu, 87, of Keaau died May 24 in Hilo. Born in the Territory of Hawaii, he graduated from Kamehameha Schools in 1955, was the neighbor island regional resource center director for Kamehameha Schools, founded the Koa Reforestation Project in 1977, ran Camp Palama Uka on Oahu, taught at Waimea and Waianae elementary schools and served on the Burial Council. Visitation 9:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday (Sept. 21) at Kamehameha Schools Kapalama Bishop Memorial Chapel in Honolulu. Memorial service at 10:30 a.m. Visitation again 9:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday (Sept. 28) at Kamehameha Schools Hawaii Campus William Charles Lunalilo Center in Keaau. Memorial service at 10:30 a.m. Casual attire. Survived by children, Thomas (Lori) Kaui Nahulu of Denver, Terianne Iwalani Nahulu of Kona, Michelle (Miller) Kaiulani Maioho of Molokai and Rene (David Ihrig) Momiaulii Nahulu of Keaau; sister, Analika G. Robert Pamplona Barba

Robert Pamplona Barba, 82, of Pahala died Apr. 17 at home. Born in Honolulu, he was a retired welder and union representative for the former Ka‘u Sugar Co., a former football coach at Ka‘u High School, also coached boxing, basketball, baseball and track, started the Ka‘u Greensands Boxing Club and the Pahala Chargers Pop Warner team, inductee of the Big Island Sports Hall of Fame and U.S. Army Vietnam War veteran. Visitation 11 a.m.-noon Saturday (Sept. 21) at Pahala Community Center. Memorial service at noon. Casual attire; no flowers. Survived by daughters, Sonya (Roger) Carvalho of Hilo, Sophia (Pernell) Hanoa and Denise (Raleigh) Peralta of Pahala; son-in-law, Joseph Gonsalves of North Kulani; sisters, Geraldine (Al) Villamor and Ethel Takushi of Oahu, Leonora (Carlos) Millandez of California and Virginia (Ian) Kaye of Washington state; sister-in-law, Beverly Barba of Washington state; 16 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Judie Dingle Malagayo

Judie Dingle Malagayo, 65, of Hilo died Aug. 18 at Hilo Benioff Medical Center. Born in Maniboc, Lingayen, Pangasinan, Philippines, she was a housekeeper for the Waikoloa Beach Marriot Resort and Spa and former high school teacher in the Philippines. Visitation 5-6 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 21) at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Funeral service at 6 p.m. Additional services will be held in the Philippines. Casual attire. Jess Kalani Lambert, 67, of Pahoa died June 14 at home. Born in Honolulu, he was the owner of Island Gutters of Hawaii, a former Hawaii County police officer, security guard at Pahoa District Park and employed at Transportation Security Administration. Jane Kayoko Onuma, 85, of Hilo died July 28 at home. Born in Mountain View, she was a retired Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalanianaole Elementary School teacher and member of Taishoji Soto Mission, Taishoji Fujin Kai, Busshin Kai and Baikako, University Heights Community Association, University Heights Family and Community Education, Hawaii State Teachers Association-Retired and National Education Association.
