HILO — Waiakea girls volleyball maintained its undefeated start with a straight-sets win over Laupahoehoe on Tuesday night in Hilo.

The Warriors won convincingly in the opening two frames — 25-4 and 25-10 — but the Seasiders put up a fight in the closing set. Waiakea was able to escape 25-23 to earn the 3-0 match win.

The Warriors (4-0) stay in second in the Big Island Interscholastic Federation (BIIF) Division I standings behind Kamehamehe Schools-Hawai‘i, and will next take the court against Ka‘u on Friday in Hilo. Junior varsity will play first at 5 p.m.

Laupahoehoe (0-4) will host Hilo at 5 p.m. Friday at home.

Kohala 3, Honoka‘a 2

Kohala girls volleyball escaped Honoka‘a in a 3-2 win Tuesday in Honoka‘a town.

The Dragons won the first two sets 25-12 and 27-25 — putting themselves in prime position to win. However, the Cowgirls went on a run in the final sets, winning 25-10, 25-18 and 15-7.

Kohala jumped to .500 on the season at 3-3. The Cowgirls’ next test will be up against Konawaena on Friday at home. Junior varsity will play first at 5 p.m.

Honoka‘a (2-3) will face DII powerhouse Parker tonight at home. Junior varsity will kick things off at 5 p.m.
