David Kilbourne Reed, 74, of Hilo died Aug. 2 at home. Born in Danville, Pa., he was publisher and owner of Petroglyph Press, co-founder of Basically Books, a designer and creator of books, past president of Hilo Downtown Improvement Association, committee member of Destination Hilo and past chairman of Hawaii Redevelopment Agency. Born in Honolulu, he was a retired bell captain at Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, reserve police officer and worked for Slim Holt; Grayline, Waiaka Lodge, Kona Inn and King Kamehameha Hotel, security at Halii Kai and Kukio and member of Hawi Sacred Heart Catholic Church and numerous motorcycle clubs.
