The annual Ka‘u High School Alumni and Friends Potluck Reunion will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Pahala Community Center.

Everyone is welcomed. Please bring a favorite dish to share.

Dennis Pascubillo and Calvin Ponce of the Class of 1970, and the hosts of this year’s reunion, will perform live music.

Also to be shown is the PBS documentary, “Ka‘u Sugar: A Town Remember.”

The film features the people of Pahala during the closing of the Ka‘u Sugar Company in 1996.

Another video will be shown about the thriving coffee industry that has emerged after the demise of sugar in Ka‘u.

Darlynne and Winslow Vierra will display their collection of Ka‘u memorabilia, including many school annuals. Also, outstanding alumni, teachers, oldest-living alumni, and icons of Ka‘u will be honored.

A history of the Ka‘u reunion and a Jan Ken Po contest are other events. Lucky-number door prizes will be awarded.

The 2024 reunion is hosted by the Class of 1970. Clement Hirae and Paulette Ke are the chief organizers. The potluck reunion is held annually on the Sunday of the Statehood weekend in August.
