A Kailua-Kona grand jury last week indicted a 44-year-old Ocean View man for the alleged sexual assault of a juvenile girl over a six-year period.

The three-count indictment charges Larry Stephan Hultberg with continuous sexual assault of a minor, plus two counts of first-degree sexual assault.

The offenses occurred between 2017 and 2023, when the girl was ages 10 to 16, according to the indictment. She currently is 16.

All three offenses are Class A felonies that carry a maximum penalty of 20 years of imprisonment upon conviction.

A bench warrant issued with the indictment set Hultberg’s bail at $500,000. It also orders him to stay away from the victim and the victim’s legal guardian.

Hultberg has not yet been arrested for the indictment. After being taken into custody, he will face arraignment and plea before Kona Circuit Judge Wendy DeWeese.

The document says Hultberg engaged in sexual penetration with the minor, who is identified only by initials, “by strong compulsion, specifically by threat, express or implied,” that put the girl “in fear of bodily injury” to herself “and/or another person.”

Hultberg also has a current domestic abuse case in the court system. The charges in that case are second-degree assault and two counts of domestic abuse, all Class C felonies that carry a maximum penalty of five years imprisonment upon conviction.

He has a hearing scheduled for Aug. 30 before DeWeese about a motion to dismiss that case.

Hultberg is free on supervised release — a form of cashless bail — in the domestic abuse case.
