Four Vulcans honored with
All-America Scholar recognition
NORMAN, Oklahoma – Nicholas Gomez, Junsu Im, Jordan Sato and Jacob Torres earned Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar recognition for averaging under 78.0 and achieving a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher.
The four Vulcans were among 226 NCAA Division-II athletes from 77 schools.
To be eligible, an individual must have held at least sophomore standing both academically and athletically. They must have participated in 50 percent of their team’s competitive rounds with a stroke average under 78.0 in Division II.
All four were also named to the Academic All-PacWest Team after helping UH-Hilo capture back-to-back Pacific West Conference Championships in April. Gomez claimed the individual title and was later named UH-Hilo’s 2023-24 Male Athlete of the Year. The Vulcans Men’s Golf team also earned UH-Hilo Vulcan Team of the Year honors.

Girls flag football announcement
Officials from the Hawai‘i State Department of Education (HIDOE), Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association (HHSAA), the public high school athletic leagues and supporters will announce the launch of girls flag football – the first new sport for high school girls in over 20 years.
The official announcement and debriefing will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at McKinley High School’s athletic field in Honolulu. More details will be released as they become available.
