Calvin Jitsuo Nishioka, 78, of Hilo died May 4 at home. Born in Pepeekeo, he was a retired electrician for the former Close Electric, U.S. Army veteran, Eagle Scout and member of IBEW Local 1186 retirees and Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin. Visitation 3-4:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, at Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin, 398 Kilauea Ave. Military honors and memorial service at 4:30 p.m. Aloha attire. Survived by children, Chris (Michelle) Nishioka, Scott (Amy) Nishioka, Shane (Shaylyn) Nishioka, Kari Nishioka and Ryan Oato; siblings, Earl (Karen) Nishioka, Arnold (Betsy) Nishioka and Pearl (Bobby) Cox; in-laws, Marcia (Yoshio) Obasa, Karl (Kiyoko) Kawauchi; seven grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Raymond Stephen Benevides

Raymond Stephen Benevides, 92, of Hilo died May 15 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Hilo, he was a retired custodian for Waiakea Elementary School, retired U.S. Army staff sergeant and member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Private family services at a later date. Survived by wife, Betty Joan Leilani Benevides of Hilo; children, Dwayne (Stella) Benevides of Oahu, Francesca L.B. (Michael C.) DeMattos of Oahu and Raymond (Perry V. Isaac “Sonny” Sadato Takayama, 89, of Papaikou died May 17 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Papaikou, he was a retired heavy equipment operator and U.S. Army veteran. Private services held. Survived by wife, Ruth Takayama of Papaikou; daughter, LeAnn Takayama-Paiva of Hilo; son, Dwayne (Dale) Takayama of Oahu; sister, Promise (Wendell) Grace of Hilo; brother-in-law, Delbert Chang of Papaikou; two grandchildren and a great-grandson; cousins, nieces and nephews.
