WAIMEA — Registration is open for the Thelma Parker Memorial Public Library’s First Saturday Community Art Class, Wabi-Sabi, which will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, June 1.

The free First Saturday Community Art Classes are presented in partnership with Waimea Arts Council artist Lorrie Taylor, who will lead the class for beginning artists ages 8-plus.

Students will learn the principles of the Japanese style of Wabi-Sabi and hand-build their own box or vessel. Students will be provided with information about how to paint, decorate and seal their air-dry clay at home.

All materials will be provided by the Waimea Arts Council.

Classes are held in the library meeting room. Class size is limited, and advance registration is required.

To register, or for more information, call (808) 887-6067. The Thelma Parker Memorial Public Library is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, noon to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday.
