UHH’s Piltz, Jackson named KTA superstars
UH-Hilo sophomore softball player Kanoe Piltz and senior baseball player Trent Jackson were named KTA Super Stores Superstars of April.
Piltz — a native of Kailua-Kona and alumnus of KS-Kapalama — notched hits in all seven games through April to post a .500 batting average with five RBIs.
Offensively, the sophomore was responsible for three of the Vulcans’ wins, highlighted by a walk-off RBI single to center field in the bottom of the ninth inning against Chaminade on April 20. She had also drove in the second run of the game with a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning.
Piltz batted 3 for 3 and smashed an RBI double for the lone run in a 1-0 victory over HPU and had also batted in both runs in a 2-1 win against Chaminade.
Jackson ended his college career hot at the plate, tallying up 13 hits for a .406 batting average with five doubles and a home run in the last 10 games. The left-handed hitter also made his first Vulcans appearances in right field, coming down with 11 putouts.
Jackson provided an RBI in a 5-3 win over HPU and batted 2 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored in an 11-10 victory over Chaminade. He totaled five multi-hit games, including going 3 for 3 with two doubles in a one-run loss to HPU. The Washington native also provided the lone RBI with a first-inning double in the season finale against UH Manoa.
