The Aloha Theatre presents “The SpongeBob Musical: Youth Edition,” opening at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 17, and will run for three weekends, closing on Sunday, June 2.
Based on the beloved cartoon, “SpongeBob” is a creative and joyful take on life under the sea. When Bikini Bottom is threatened by an impending volcanic eruption, SpongeBob and his friends must come together to save their town. Heroes rise up, villains fall, and bubbles pop in this eccentric and original musical. Don’t miss the chance to spend an hour with SpongeBob, Patrick Star, Sandy Cheeks, Squidward, and many other fan favorites.
This production is directed by Brett McCardle with vocal direction by Ryan Leinbach and choreography by Christian Aragon and Harli Meech. Kim Woods serves as stage manager.
This is a junior production which means that all the performers are young people and students from right here in our community. Brenner Upchurch takes on the title role of SpongeBob with Kendall Haddock at his side as Patrick Star. Scarlette Burnham plays Sandy Cheeks. Chayton Martinez plays the evil Plankton with Scarlett White stepping in as his computer wife, Karen. Squidward is brought to life by Calvin Seipel. Aiyana Martinez plays Pearl and Finley Leatherman plays her money-grubbing father, Mr. Krabs.
Set design by Debbie Rauhe with support from Victor Pilolla and Alex Gupton. Light and sound design by Jeff Rowand. Costumes designed by Judy Tringali, Anna Lei Leuenberger, and Nicole Burnham. Props designed and created by Kevin Brooks. Brooke Aragon, Mikayla Winkler, and Corey Cockrell offer support as board operators. Set build managed and overseen by Hal Snyder.
Beginning Friday, May 17, “The SpongeBob Musical: Youth Edition” will run Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. through Sunday, June 2. The show lasts about one hour and has one 15-minute intermission.
This play is appropriate for audiences of all ages. This production does feature amplified sound and flashing lights. Concessions, including beer and wine, will be available for purchase at the theatre. Every Saturday will have discounted beer and wine at $5/each.
