Ka Makani won in four sets over Kanu o ka ‘Aina — 25-23, 25-18, 24-26 and 26-24.
Kanu showed fight in the final two sets to push HPA, but head coach Daena Craven’s group was able to execute down the stretch to seal the win.
Cam Root led the red and white with an impressive .750 hit percentage, followed by Kena Craven’s .620 and Kainoa Kakuewa’s .125.
Ka Makani (1-1) will look to rise above .500 in its next match against last year’s BIIF finalist Pahoa at 6 p.m. Wednesday on the road.
Kanu (0-4) is still in search of its first win, and will return to the court against Honoka‘a at 5 p.m. Wednesday in the Dragons’ gymnasium.
JV score: HPA beat Kohala 27-25, 16-25 and 17-15.
