WAIPAHU, O‘ahu — In its third straight visit to the HHSAA Division II state championship final round, the Kamehameha Schools – Hawai‘i boys soccer team fell 1-0 to Kauai’s Island School on Saturday night at the Waipi‘o Soccer Complex.
After entering halftime scoreless, the Voyagers’ Sawyer Rogoff scored a goal around the 65-minute mark.
Without much time to work with, the two-time DII state champions were unable to respond — losing their chance for a three-peat.
This was Island School’s first-ever title match appearance. The Voyagers were a dominant force on Kauai this season, going 9-1-1 in KIF play.
Saturday was also KSH’s first loss of the season — as the Warriors return to the Big Island 13-1-0.
KS-Hawai‘i’s girls soccer team also suffered a narrow loss in the DII championship finals, falling in a PK shootout to Pac-Five last week.
Consolation
Hawaii Prep won the DII fifth-place consolation match, defeating Castle 5-1 on Saturday afternoon. HPA’s top scorer was Dani Habiak with two goals — teammates Kena Craven, Alex Link and Kaulia Kapuniai also scored.
With this win, Ka Makani closed out state tourney play 2-1, and with an overall record of 6-7-1.
Kealakehe played a consolation match against Maui’s King Kekaulike High, but the Tribune-Herald was unable to obtain the score.
