Calling attention to
Kona traffic hazard
In reference to a letter published in West Hawaii Today on Jan. 19, I am sure many who live in Kona would agree with Debbie Hecht’s assessment described in her “Wishing for more attention for Kona” letter.
In addition to her list, there is an alarming safety situation just waiting to happen.
The striping lines at the Queen Ka‘ahumanu Highway and Henry Street intersection must be repainted now. While driving toward makai and making a left turn from Henry Street onto the Queen Ka‘ahumanu Highway, sooner or later a head-on collision will occur, because the striping on the turn lanes are no longer visible.
Making that left turn at night or on a rainy day is like driving with your eyes closed, because there is no way to identify the proper turn lanes.
When will this ever be corrected? It’s been over a year. Get it done before someone gets injured or killed.
To continue to turn a blind eye on this problem shows the lack of responsibility by the department in charge of highway safety.

Trump’s immunity
claim is ridiculous
Donald J. Trump seems to be of the opinion that the president of the United States of America has inherent king-like powers that would permit a president to get away with anything.
He also believes it’s fair game to assassinate one’s political opponents.
If presidential immunity had existed, then President Richard M. Nixon would have used it.
If “Tricky Dick” Nixon didn’t use it, then it certainly didn’t exist then, nor does it exist now, except in the highly questionable mind of Trump and his grasping-at-straws legal team.

Can we afford four
years of revenge?
This is regarding the letter by Leedda Bozic of Waimea (West Hawaii Today, Jan. 18).
You do realize that inflation is global, and we are recovering better and faster than any other nation? What is the Republican plan for inflation?
Insulin is now capped at $35; some paid $1,200. All Republicans voted against.
Donald Trump on his Truth Social account posted a word cloud showcasing words such as “power,” “revenge” and “dictatorship.”
Can we afford four years of that?
