The Kailua Village Artists featured member artist for the month of January is stained glass artist Bill Jaeger.
Recently Bill Jaeger was asked what his thoughts and plans were for the upcoming new year. He found this quote on social media: “Art is making a thing, and then trying to make a better one, and you keep doing this as long as you can. And that’s a pretty good life.”
Using this philosophy, Jaeger will be featuring a variety of new work. He will be featuring a Bevel Eagle on a wrought iron stand with 13 stars around the eagle. Other new work includes a trio of bevel butterflies, bevel dragon fly on a lily pad and a glass painted King Kamehameha butterfly panel, also on a wrought iron stand. Fans of his work will also be happy to see a full range of local favorites – nightlights, sun catchers, honus, and smaller stained-glass panels as well.
Jaeger learned the art of stained glass some 45 years ago. When he moved to the Big Island in 2004, he had the luxury to completely immerse himself in the art and stretch his creative capabilities. Since then, he has developed a style and skill evident in every piece he makes; each being an original design created out of hand cut glass or bevels, then soldered together using the copper foil method.
To meet featured artist Bill Jaeger and see his latest work, come and talk story with him at the gallery on Saturdays, January 6 and 27, 2024. While working in the gallery, he will be demonstrating the stained-glass technique, copper foiling, which is used to create a panel.
