Sueko Omori
Sueko Omori, 95, of Papaikou, died Nov. 1, 2023, at home. Born in Papaikou, she was retired from American Savings Bank and a member of Papaikou Hongwanji Mission and Fujinkai. Private services held. No koden (monetary gifts) or flowers. Survived by sons, Terence (Bridget) Omori of Mililani, Oahu, Curtis Omori of Papaikou; daughter, Jan (Hugh) Kaneko of Holualoa; brother, Mamoru Matsuzaki of Reno, Nev.; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. Kenneth Kubo
Kenneth Masao Kubo, 89, of Hilo, died Nov. 12, 2023, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hakalau, he was a retired Licensed Practical Nurse/Emergency Medical Technician for Hilo Medical Center, also had worked at Kuakini Medical Center on Oahu, served in the Hawaii Army National Guard and member of Waiakea Baptist Bible Church, Hawaii County Nutrition Program at Aunty Sally’s Luau Hale and Yamaguchi Kenjinkai. Visitation from 9-10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 11, 2023, at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo; funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Burial to follow at Alae Cemetery Section H. Casual attire. No floral wreaths or bouquets. Lei are welcomed. He is survived by wife, Evelyn Kubo of Hilo; children, Violet (Mark) Miyaji of San Francisco, Garret (Debra) Kubo of Arlington, Texas, Randal (Dayle) Ishii and Peter Kubo of Hilo; brother, Kiyoshi (Barbara) Kubo of Hakalau; seven grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Rosita Joyce
Rosita Ann Joyce, 89, of Keaau, died Nov. 15 at home. She was born in Molokai and was a homemaker. Private services held. Benjamin Raymond
Benjamin K. Raymond, 86, of Kapaau, passed away on Nov. 26, 2023, at his residence. He was born on April 30, 1937, in North Kohala. He was a laborer for the former Kohala Sugar Co. and worked many years in the operations of the Kohala Ditch, a retired nursery worker for Kohala Nursery, a retired laborer at Dicks Construction, Pankow Construction, Hawaii Dredging Construction Co., and Goodfellow Construction, a veteran in the US Marine Corps. Friends may call on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at the St. Augustine‘s Episcopal Church in Kapaau, Hawaii. Hale Pekelo
Hale Vincent Lani Pekelo, Sr., 75, of Mountain View, died on October 24, 2023 at Hilo Medical Center. He was born on June 26, 1948 in Honolulu, Hawaii. He was a disabled Vietnam Veteran of the U.S. Army. He was formerly employed by Kauhale Olu Apartments as a maintenance worker. Visitation will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. on Sunday (Dec. 10, 2023) at Dodo Mortuary Chapel, Hilo; Service at 6 p.m. Visitation will continue from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Monday (Dec. 11, 2023) at Malia Puka O Kalani Catholic Church, Keaukaha; Funeral Mass at 10 a.m.; burial to follow at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery #2. Leopoldo “Leo” Daquep, 73, formerly of Ookala, passed away in Paauilo on November 15, 2023. Born March 30, 1950 in the Philippines, he was a retired housekeeper at the Fairmont Orchid.
