Kathleen Jaeger, multi-media artist is Kailua Village Artist’s featured artist during the month of December. She has been pondering change and what that means in our daily living.

Things happen in every life that cause change. Sometimes this is a change we have been working toward and meet with excitement and joy. At other times change is forced upon us, and we meet it resigned to the fact that we just have to get through it. Sometimes, as “The Right Honourable” Sir Winston Churchill said, “Change is the master key.” He writes that it is only through change that we grow, improve, and protect ourselves from becoming complacent, and is something we should forever welcome and seek in whatever form works for us personally. Jaeger pondered how these changes impact her art production, or how art production may affect how one processes those changes.

Jaeger reflects “I often change my approach to art just because I wanted to explore the possibilities of a medium, or to try something different. This is fun and exciting. Then there have been adjustments necessary to meet changes in my life circumstances. These could be somewhat annoying to adjust to, but, given time, they became the new normal fairly painlessly. Others have been due to physical changes; years take their toll. These, for me, are the most challenging. Ultimately after the initial frustrations over being forced to adapt, I have found the process to be exciting, even cathartic. I see it both in my overall well-being but also in the work that is the product of this struggle. In my latest work, I am finding I am more willing to “just paint”, to challenge my mind and body to stretch what and life had set as my limits and just see that happens.”

Some of what Jaeger will be showing this month are the result of this ongoing process. In conclusion, to quote Churchill one more time, “Painting is a friend who makes no undue demands, excites to no exhausting pursuits, keeps faithful pace even with feeble steps, and holds her canvas as a screen between us and the envious eyes of Time or the surly advance of Decrepitude. Happy are the painters for they shall not be lonely. Light and colour, peace and hope, will keep them company to the end, or almost to the end, of the day.” Kathlee Jaeger will be working at the gallery on Fridays, Dec. 1 st and 22 nd , and Tuesday Dec.5 th , 2023.

On December 1 st , KVA is inviting the public to their Annual Holiday Reception and Charity tree from 5 – 7 pm at the gallery.
