‘Journey to Bethlehem’ event at Mokuaikaua Church
From 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, the historic Mokuaikaua Church in Kailua-Kona will host “Journey to Bethlehem.”This family-friendly event on the church grounds offers an opportunity to stroll from historical Nazareth to Bethlehem, following the path of Mary and Joseph of the Christmas Nativity account. Storytelling, period costumes, live animals and refreshments will engage both children and adults. This festive theatrical event is free and open to the entire community. Kona Choral Society to present ‘Joy to the World’ concert
Help celebrate the season in song by attending the Kona Choral Society’s annual “Joy to the World” concert, which will feature 95 voices from the Society, guest singers, the Kona Brass Quintet, percussionist Sharon Cannon, collaborative pianist Gloria Juan, string bassist Scott Jeffrey and artistic director Susan McCreary Duprey. This free event will take place at 7 p.m. Friday at Saint Michael the Archangel Church, 75-5769 Ali‘i Drive in Kailua Kona. Featured works this fall season include newly composed Hawaiian choral music by Herb Mahelona, as well as Hawaiian choral arrangements by Justin Ka‘upu and Dorothy Gillett. Holiday selections will include pieces like “Christmas Time is Here,” “Sleigh Ride” and “The Christmas Song.” To top it off, the audience will get to join in and sing along to a few familiar Christmas carols.
