The Big Island Art Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Friday and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Kahilu Town Hall in Waimea.
The fair showcases art for sale from approximately 20 local artists each day, with styles including acrylic and oil painting, mosaics, ceramic, jewelry, digital art, photography and more.
The fair also is sponsoring the second annual “Ode to Black” art contest — a tribute to the color black, with proof that it is for more than bats and cats this month.
Visitors will be able to view the submitted artwork and vote for their favorites, with cash prizes being awarded Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. to the winning artists.
In addition, there will be demonstration sessions. On all three days, join Trish Helms Kimball for soft pastel painting and Karrieanne Warren for linocut printing.
On Thursday and Friday, Violet Love Designs demonstrates palm frond weaving, and Luti Castro demonstrates oil on metal painting Thursday and Saturday .
On Saturday, the Waimea Arts Council will sponsor a free art project and coffee from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and hotdogs, chili and sweets will be available on-site from Sweet Spot Hawaii.
