This week will be the final week of regular-season BIIF girls volleyball.
The final game will be held Monday evening, and the first round of the BIIF DII playoffs is slated for next Saturday (Oct. 21).
Because of some current and potential ties in the DII standings, the BIIF has created a contingency plan for tiebreaker games to take place next week.
Parker 3 – Honoka‘a 0
The Bulls ended their loss streak with a sweep of visiting Honoka‘a HS on Monday evening.
Parker defeated the Dragons in straight sets of 25-16, 25-19 and 25-20.
After Tuesday’s game against Konawaena (scores will be published Thursday), the Bulls have no remaining regular season outings. Parker stands well within playoff territory, and — depending on seedings — will begin BIIF DII playoff play on either Oct. 21 or Oct. 24.
Honoka‘a teeters near the bottom of playoff territory, currently tied with St. Joseph school for the No. 7 standing. The results of the Dragons’ two remaining matches will determine whether they rise in the standings, remain in a tie and play a tiebreaker match, or fall to a lower standing.
Pahoa 3 – Kanu ‘o ka ‘Aina 1
The Daggers won their final home match — winning the first two sets 25-5, 25-8 , losing the third 25-22 and winning the fourth 25-16.
Pahoa played its final match regular Tuesday against St. Joseph School (scores will be published on Thursday). The Daggers are also guaranteed a playoff berth, but their seeding will not be determined until the end of this weekend. If Pahoa remains at its No. 5 ranking (as of Monday night), it will host the no. 8 seed in the first round.
This was Kanu’s final match of its innaugural season, ending it with a far-from-ideal, 0-12 record. Monday’s set victory during the loss to Pahoa was one of just four sets won on the season for Kanu.
Remaining action
Tonight will see two matches — Hilo HS at Kealakehe HS, then Ehunui JV and Ka ‘Umeke varsity against Ka‘u HS.
Thursday will see one of the most decisive matches of the season — No. 2 HPA (10-1) versus No. 3 Konawaena (9-1). The winner will take the No. 2 seed, and therefore get first and second round byes for the BIIF championship.
Friday will have plenty of action — Ka‘u at Honoka‘a, SJS at Kohala and Ka ‘Umeke at Makua Lani. On Saturday, Kohala will host Christian Liberty and Laupahoehoe will host Konawaena.
The final regular season outing will be Honoka‘a at CLA on Monday (Oct. 16), which was rescheduled from Tuesday (Oct. 10).

If there are any two-way ties, tiebreaker matches will be played on Wednesday, Oct. 16.
If there is a three-way tie, the No. 10 and No. 9 teams will play against each other Wednesday, then the winner will face the No. 8 team the following day. These seedings will be determined by factors such as sets won versus sets lost, and points for versus points against.
