WAIMEA — After falling in a close 26-24 first set, Hawaii Prep girls volleyball rallied back to win three consecutive frames to take home its fourth win of the season against Pahoa on Wednesday night at Castle Gym.
Junior outside hitter Margot Lewis led Ka Makani in kills once again with 16 on 35 attempts (45.71% efficiency). No other HPA player had double-digit kills.
In the serve department, junior outside hitter Mya Pinkert headlined HPA with six aces.
HPA (4-0 overall) will return to action Monday against Christian Liberty (0-4 overall) on the road. Pahoa (1-3 overall) next plays Makua Lani (0-3) at 6 p.m. tonight at Kealakehe.
Konawaena sweeps Kohala
Konawaena handled Kohala in straight sets Wednesday in Kapaau — 25-9, 25-13, 26-24.
The Wildcats (3-1 overall) will travel to St. Joseph (1-3 overall) next to play at 6 p.m. Saturday. The Cowgirls (2-2 overall) will next face Laupahoehoe (3-1 overall) at 5 p.m. tonight on the road.
Ka‘u wins again
Ka‘u notched its fourth straight win, routing Makua Lani Christian 3-0 at home. The Trojans won in straight sets of 25-11, 25-9 and 25-10.
Now 4-0, Ka‘u rivals Hawai‘i Prep (4-0) for the top standing in BIIF DII. The Trojans will travel tomorrow to Parker School (2-1) for an 11 a.m. tipoff.
Still winless at 0-3, the Lions will play at 6p.m. tonight against Pahoa HS at Kealakehe HS. Ehunui JV will play before Makua Lani at 5 p.m.
Cardinals notch first win
After a rough start to the season, St Joseph School got its first win — sweeping Ka ‘Umeke Ka‘eo Charter at the Hilo Armory.
The Cardinals established an early lead, and maintained it all the way through to prevail 25-9 — their first set won on the season.
The second set was much closer. Ka ‘Umeke stayed within striking range throughout, even briefly tying the score and taking a small lead mid-set. The intensity increased as both teams approached the 20-point mark, and injuries were suffered on both sides.
At the end, SJS pulled away to win 25-21.
The third set was more like the first, and the Cardinals dominated 25-13.
SJS has entered the win collumn at 1-3, and will host its fourth straight home game at 6 p.m. tomorrow against Konawaena HS.
Ka ‘Umeke fell to 1-2 following the loss to SJS. On Tuesday, the team will take a road trip to Kohala HS.
