Edward Madamba
Edward Ramones Madamba, 88, of Hilo, passed away June 21, 2023 at residence in Hilo. Born October 23, 1934 in Makaweli, Kauai; he was an Army Veteran. He was a long-time employee of a Rocket Company, Aerojet, and a Nuclear Utility Plant Company, SMUD, in California, before returning to his Island roots. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date He is survived by wife Penny Madamba of Hilo; children, Renate Madamba of Stockton, California, Michael Madamba of Redlands, California, Alan (Mary) Madamba of Rocklin, California and Edward (Sandra) Ane of Sacramento, California; sister, Caridad Villanueva of Stockton, California; three grandchildren; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews; Arrangements by Dodo Mortuary.
Keichi Ikeda
Keichi Ikeda, 98, of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, died June 10, 2023, at his residence. Born in Pahoa, Hawaii on April 28, 1925, he was a registered professional mechanical engineer with FMC an ESD in San Jose, CA. He is survived by his wife, Grace; daughter, Gail (Larry Yamano) of Sunnyvale, CA.; sons, Michael (Jessie) Ikeda of Saratoga, CA., and Edward (Janis) Ikeda of San Jose, CA.; 4 grandchildren; 2 nephews. Lewis Swain
Lewis Emerson Swain, III, 54, of Hilo, died on June 1, 2023 in Hilo. He was born on January 20, 1969 in Hilo, Hawaii. He was a carpenter; a member of Hale Pule Ke Ola Hou; and volunteered for Camp Agape. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at Haili Tent, Noeau Street, Panaewa, Hilo; visitation from 10 to 11 a.m.; service at 11 a.m.; luncheon to follow. Casual attire. No flowers and Lei welcomed. Marie Kelson
Marie Makaiwakukahakai Loa Kelson, 87, of Hilo, died on June 15, 2023 at home. She was born on February 16, 1936 in Hilo, Hawaii. She graduated from the Kamehameha School Kapalama, Class of 1954 and then joined the U.S. Marine Corps. She worked at Naniloa Hotel as a bartender, front desk clerk, and account clerk; and later for Gumapac Company. Visitation will be held from 8 to 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at Kawananakoa Hall, 156 Baker Avenue, Keaukaha; Celebration of Life at 10 a.m. Casual attire. Survived by, husband of 68 years, Albert Kelson; daughter, Alberdine “Dina” (Jesus “Leabert”) Pascua; sons, Kelvin (Candace) Kelson, Kendall Kelson and Brian (Lorna) Kelson; sisters, Claudia Loa Spillman of Hilo, Janice Loa Thomas of Honokaa and Nellie Angelo of Honokaa; brother, Jacob Thomas of Oahu; hanai brother, Elia “Bull” Lui of Hilo; 8 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. John Kim
John David Kim, 98, of Hilo died June 20 at his home. Born in Honaunau, he was a retired head custodian at Waiakeawaena Elementary School, former equipment operator for Kuwaye Trucking and other trucking companies, member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II. Visitation from 8–9 a.m. Thursday, July 6, 2023 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo; funeral mass at 9:30. Burial to follow at 11:30 a.m. at the East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery #2. Casual attire. Survived by daughters, Mary Ann (John) Andrade of Ahualoa, Malina Nakamura of Hilo; sister, Bernice Paik of Waimanalo; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. Charles Greene
Charles “Chuck” S. Greene Jr. 85, of Pahoa died on June 5, 2023 at Infinity House Care in Las Vegas, Nevada. Born on December 10, 1937, he was a 20 year veteran of the United States Air Force and former owner of Pahoa Puna, Buy &Sell in Hawaii. A Celebration of Life to honor and remember Chuck will be held at Dodo Mortuary Chapel on Sunday, July 9th, 2023; visitation to begin at 5 p.m. and services to begin at 6 p.m. He is survived by his, wife, Madeline “Aunty Madie”; hanai children, Brian (Monalisa) Hyatt, Terri-Ann (William) Quinn, Carla Hyatt Davis, Stephanie Hyatt and Renee (Vaughn) Arnold; sister Patricia Dankievitch; 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Breheda Aiona
Breheda Salinas Aiona, 87, of Kapaau, Hawaii died June 4, 2023 at her residence. Born in Pepeekeo, Hawaii on October 8, 1935, she was a professional waitress at the Naniloa, Mauna Kea Beach and Hapuna Beach Prince hotels, and a member of ILWU, FILAM Women’s Softball League. She is survived by her sons, Martin (Lynette) Ellazar of Kailua Kona, Robert (Debbie) Ellazar of Makapala, Shannon (Emely) Aiona of Kauai and Jessie Aiona of Kapaau; brother, Jose (Maria) Salinas of Kailua Kona; sisters, Julita (Rudy) Silan of San Diego, CA., Rita Daniel of Wyoming, and Gloria Grider of Hilo; 12 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren. A celebration of life gathering to be announced at a later date.
