Yasuko Matsunaga

Yasuko Arakaki Matsunaga, 91, formerly of Hilo, died Dec. 18, 2022, in Portland, Oregon. Born in Kekaha, Kauai, she was a retired kindergarten teacher on Hawaii island, Hawaii State Teacher of the Year in 1974, a UH Hilo instructor and mentor of future teachers, a member of Hilo United Methodist Church, and a founder of the Peanut Butter Ministry meals program in Hilo. Friends may call at 10 a.m. July 14, 2023 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for an 11 a.m. service. Family requests no flowers or monetary gifts. She is survived by son, Peter (Doris) Matsunaga; daughter, Robyn (Bob) Wagner; sister, Mae Chong; three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Curtis Lea

Curtis Arthur Lea, 62, of Kailua Kona, Hawaii died April 4, 2023 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Fresno, California on August 23, 1960, he was a chef at the Fairmount Orchid. He was a member of Lifewater Church and American Culinary Federation. A celebration of life service will be held at 10 a.m. July 8, 2023 at Lifewater Church in Kealakekua, Hawaii. Additional service will be held on July 22, 2023 in Shaver Lake, California. He is survived by his wife, Lisa Lea; son, Alika Lea and daughter, Addi Lea, all of Kailua Kona; sisters, Susan (Bill Boyce) of Avila Beach, CA., Elizabeth (Gary) Theriault of Kailua Kona, Sandra Lea of Fresno, CA.; 2 nephews; several aunts and uncles; numerous cousins; step mother, Phyllis Lea of Fresno, CA. Glenn Tokihiro

Glenn Yoshio Tokihiro, 73, of Hilo, HI, died May 12, 2023 in Hilo. He was born on April 14, 1950. Services were held. Online condolences: www.homelanimemorialpark.com. Survived by wife, Aileen Tokihiro; daughters, Terry (Orion) McLellan and Tracey (Harvey) Fukushima; son, Robert John (Alyssa) Tokihiro; and sisters, Janet Furutani and Lynne Tokihiro.

Guy Berinobis

Guy D. “Guy Boy” Berinobis, 58, of Keaau, HI, died April 19, 2023 in Hilo, HI. He was born on May 25, 1965 in Kaneohe, HI. A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Sunday, July 16 2023, at Kualoa Beach Park (49-479 Kamehameha Hwy., Kaneohe, HI) with a visitation starting at 10:00 A.M. and service starting at 11:30 A.M. Philip Kamoku

Philip Kekoa Kamoku, Jr., of Captain Cook, Hawaii, died May 18, 2023 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Honolulu, Hawaii on May 5, 1958, he was a manager for Mrs. Fields Cookies, a member of Kahikolu Congregational Church, and Kuakini Hawaiian Civic Club. Visitation will be held at 9 a.m. July 22, 2023 at Kahikolu Congregational Church in Napoopoo; memorial service will begin at 10 a.m., luncheon to follow. The family requests casual attire. He is survived by his hanai son, Justin Lopaka (Brittney) Peters of Holualoa; sisters, Philleys (Jared) Peters, Sr., Char Pule, and Junie-Ann Kamoku, all of Capt. Cook; brothers, Paul (Leeann) Kamoku, Sr., of Kailua-Kona and John Kamoku, Sr., of Capt. Cook; several aunts and uncles; numerus nieces, nephews, and cousins. Arrangements by Dodo Mortuary.

Angeline Kahumoku

Angeline Kahumoku, 83, of Kailua Kona, Hawaii, died June 13, 2023 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Kealakekua, Hawaii on January 5, 1940, she was a manager and business owner of several restaurants. She is survived by her daughter, Lori (Con) Tsotsoros of Melbourne, Australia; hanai daughter, Vicki (Brad) Picking of Kailua Kona; brother, William (Sharon) Dunaway of N.D.; half-brother, Roscoe (Gayle) Kahumoku of Enterprise, AL.; sister, Lori (Robbie) Roberts of Orlando, FL.; one grandson; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Patricia Mattos

Patricia Ann Mattos, 85, of Hilo died June 13 at the Hilo Medical Center. Born in San Francisco, California, she was a retired office manager in the custom decorating department at JC Penney and a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo. Private services will take place at a later date. Survived by four children: Anita (Charles) Cunningham, Patricia (Hank) Baroldy, Edward (Emily) Serrano, Anthony Serrano, three sisters, one brother, nine grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
