Sadako Iyo

Sadako Iyo, 91, of Hilo, passed away on February 15, 2023. Born April 3, 1931 in Captain Cook, HI, she retired as a Senior Cashier from Food Fair Supermarket and was a member of Hawaii Ballroom Dance. She is survived by sons, Myles Iyo, Dennis Iyo; daughters, Joycelyn Iyo, Christine (Jason) Gushiken; brothers, Llyod Hiraoka, Isami Hiraoka; sisters, Yukiko H. Sewake, Yuriko H. Higa; 9 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren; in addition to aunts, uncles and cousins. Private services held. Arrangements by Ballard Family Mortuary.

Craig Andres

Craig Andres, 47, of Hilo, passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at Hilo Medical Center, born on November 12, 1975, Hilo; he was Building Maintenance Worker for the Hawaii Community College. Edward Medeiros

Edward Medeiros, 91, of Keauhou Mauka, Hawaii died April 26, 2023 at his residence. Born in South Kona, Hawaii on August 11, 1931, he was a retired forklift leaderman for Young Brothers, Ltd., a coffee farmer, deep sea fisherman and cattle rancher. Friends may call Friday, July 7, 2023 from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. wake service and fellowship at Honaunau Rodeo Arena at 84-5119 Keala O Keawe Rd. Friends may call again at 7:30 a.m., Saturday, July 8, 2023 at Honauanu Rodeo Arena; funeral service, celebration of life presentation, and luncheon will begin at 9:30 a.m. A drive through the Honaunau boat ramp will start at 2 p.m. and burial to follow at Kona Memorial Park. The family requests casual attire, lei and flowers are welcome. He is survived by his daughters, Maile (Russel) David, II, of Ho’okena, Shirley (Terry) Bird of Keauhou Mauka; son, Rick (Avis) Medeiros of Oahu; sister, Mona Oliver of California; 6 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Alexis Beamer

Alexis U’ilani “Lani” (Ah Mow) Beamer, 71 of Waimea, Hawai’i, passed away on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at residence in Waimea, Hawai’i; born on December 28, 1951 in Honolulu; Lani was a homemaker and mother of five. She was a dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Nicholas Taylor

Nicholas Alexander Taylor, 47, of Pahoa, passed away on Monday, May 8, 2023 at Hilo Medical Center. Born on December 4, 1976, in Honolulu, Nicholas was raised on the Big Island of Hawaii. Memorial Services/ Celebration of His Life to be announced at a later date. Preceded in death his father, Eric F. Taylor (Rest in Love &Peace) He is survived by mother, Janet E. Taylor of Pahoa; Step-father, Crandall Leialoha of Hawaii; sister, Alison E. Taylor; brothers, James M. Taylor and William C. (Chanel) Taylor; Numerous nieces and nephews. Judith Bond

Judith “Judi” Kay Bond, 71 of Kailua Kona, Hawaii died May 13, 2023 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Born in Pennsylvania on July 16, 1951, she served as administrator of the Counseling and Health Care building on the campus of the University of Nations (YWAM) in Kona, Hawaii and was a member of the Kona Coast Chaplaincy. She is survived by cousins, Sheila and Ray Livingston of Georgia and others on mainland USA. Memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. June 17, 2023 on the grassy area of the Kona Inn, located on Alii Drive in Kailua Kona. Arrangements by Nuuanu Mortuary.

Rhoda Sumiki

Rhoda Setsuko Sumiki, age 76, of Honolulu, Hawaii (formerly of Papaikou, Hawaii) died May 19, 2023 in the Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu. She was born in Hilo, Hawaii on September 1, 1946 and retired as a Loan Officer from the Board of Water Supply Federal Credit Union. She also previously worked at the former HT&T Federal Credit Union in Hilo, Hawaii. Visitation will be held on June 14, 2023 (Wednesday) at Dodo Mortuary Chapel in Hilo, Hawaii from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.; funeral service will begin at 10:00 a.m. Cremation will follow. Casual attire is requested. She is survived by sister, Dale (Dennis) Kunimitsu of Honolulu; sisters-in-law, Luwana Sumiki of Hilo and Althea Sumiki of Hilo; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. Chong Poy

Chong Tom Poy, also known as Tom Poy Jr., 96, of Laupahoehoe, died on Sunday, May 21, 2023 at his home, born in Hilo; He was a retired Crane Loader Operator for the former Hamakua Sugar Company, longtime Chairman for ILWU Unit 1106, President of the Laupahoehoe Pensioners Club, a member of the North Hilo Community Council, the Hawaiian Civic Club of Laupahoehoe and a U.S. Marine Veteran. Visitation from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel, Services at 10 a.m. Gravesite Service at 12 noon at East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2 (Pavilion) with Military Honors Burial to follow Survived by wife, Leonie Kawaihona (Laeha) Poy; children, Sui Sin (Jerry) Coloma, Kam Ling (Glen) Alatan, Mei Ling (Gilbert) Bailado, Tom Chong (Bellia) Poy, Yuk Ling (Bernard) Adams and Sui Ling Poy; sister, Leilani Brothers; sister in-law, Eleanor Laeha; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Mathilda Salinas

Mathilda Margaret Kamalu Salinas, 80, of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii died May 22, 2023 at her residence. Born in Molokai, Hawaii on June 2, 1942, she was a retired teacher at Konawaena High School, and a member of Kona Music Society and served at Solid Rock Ministries in Kona. She is survived by her son, Roger Leo Salinas of Kawaihae; daughters, Jaymayne (Coleson Castillo) Salinas of Waimea, and Joy (Mervin, Jr.) Hanato of Kailua-Kona; 13 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation will be held at 9 a.m. June 17, 2023 at Overflow Church at 55-595 Hawi Rd., Hawi 96719. Celebration of life service will begin at 10 a.m. with lunch to follow.
