When Hawaii’s revered and beloved kumu hula, composer, and music icon, Robert Cazimero takes the stage this Saturday at 7 pm, it will mark his 37th year of May Day (give or take) concerts at Kahilu Theatre. Interrupted only during the pandemic year of 2020, Cazimero’s May visits to Waimea have become a cherished Kahilu tradition.
With a career spanning more than four decades, Robert Cazimero has captivated audiences around the world with his unique blend of traditional Hawaiian music and contemporary sounds. As a cultural ambassador, he has worked tirelessly to educate people throughout the world about the history, traditions, and values of Hawai‘i.
Though he was raised on Oahu, Robert often shares heartfelt stories about his grandfather and his ancestral roots in Kohala. All of the local halau hula dance to “Aloha E Kohala” by Cazimero, and it is a beautiful tribute to this land. Robert’s charismatic stage presence evokes many emotions for audience members of all ages as he shows his unparalleled ability to connect with the spectators and invite them on the journey of his life’s story. Having family roots on the Big Island, Robert’s performances often include a special invitation to friends and relatives to join him on stage.
Only a few In-Person tickets remain for Saturday’s long-awaited annual appearance. There will be no Livestream or On-Demand viewing for this Mother’s Day-eve performance, so get your tickets today to be sure you don’t miss out!
