Brett Lajala
Brett Williams Lajala, 63, of Niuli’i, Hawaii died December 7, 2022 at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born on Oahu, Hawaii on May 12, 1959, he worked for Island Harvest in North Kohala and Kohala Institute at I’ole. He is survived by his wife, Bernadette Lajala; daughters, Ho’ohie (Melvin Debrum) Lajala, Hi’ipoi (Shane Salis) Knappe and Malia Lajala; mother, Eleanor Bonner; brothers, Scott Lajala, Kurt (Celest) Lajala); sister, Beth (Ken) Nascimento; 15 grandchildren; 1 great grandson; numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held on May 13, 2023 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Keokea Beach Park in Kohala. Arrangements by Dodo Mortuary Inc.

Francis Nicascio Paclib, 56, of Waikoloa died February 15, 2023 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Hawaii on April 18, 1966, he was a construction worker. He is survived by his wife, Staci Benevides of Waikoloa; daughters, Kayla (Kelano Santos) Benevides, Tatiana (Tyago Wilson) Paclib and Katelynn Paclib, all of Waikoloa; sons, Kai Paclib of Wyoming, Po’okela Feliciano of Honolulu and Tyler Paclib of Texas; hanai son, Chad (Brandi) Mead of Wyoming; brothers, Randy (Lori) Paclib and Fredo (Tasha) Paclib, all of Maui, Kaipo Paclib, Ruben Paclib , Lee Randall Paclib and Ruland (Kristy) Paclib, all of Honolulu; sisters, Melissa Reyes of Honolulu, Allie Paclib of Maui, Denise Yamanaka of Honolulu, Dawn Cayaban of Maui, Lee Remick Paclib, Lee Renee Paclib, and Kanani Paclib, all of Honolulu; 5 grandchildren; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Charles Sutton Stewart, 72, of Pahoa, passed away on March 9, 2023. He was born March 12, 1950 in Maryland, he was a retired Veterinarian and a member of Chabad Jewish Center of the Big Island (Kona), Reform (Pahoa), the ManKind Project and the Beit Mishpocha (Washington DC). Christine Catherine Akina, 71, of Kailua Kona, Hawaii died March 25, 2023 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Honolulu, Hawaii on December 12, 1951, she was a child care provider with PATCH and Malahini Keiki Care,a and a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Visitation will be held at 9 a.m., May 6, 2023 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on Kalani St. in Kailua Kona. Funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. The family requests aloha attire. She is survived by her husband, Alvin Akina; daughter, Carrie Akina, both of Kailua Kona; stepsons, Jesse Akina of Kailua Kona, and Carl Akina of Keaau; sister, Carol Price of San Leandro, CA.; 8 grandchildren; several nieces. Ernest Eiichi Takaku, 90, of Hilo died on Mar. 28 at his residence. Born in Mountain View, he was a retired anthurium farmer and a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Private services. Nancy Sachiko Watanabe, 85, passed away on April 3, 2023 in the Straub Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. She was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on November 7, 1937 and retired from the State of Hawaii Department of Taxation as a Tax Collector. She was a member of the Papaikou Hongwanji Buddhist Temple and Buddhist Women’s Association. Visitation will be held at Dodo Mortuary Chapel in Hilo on April 30, 2023 Sunday from 3 to 4:00 p.m. Memorial service will begin at 4 p.m. Casual attire is requested. Face masks are optional.
