Indictment Means What?

Former President Trump has been indicted by a Manhattan grand jury for misdemeanors and felonies involved in business practices. What does this mean?

First, it means the state of New York is officially bringing criminal charges against Trump based on his previous behavior. It is NOT a determination of guilt. Instead, it means that an officialgroup of randomly selected people in New York have adjudged the facts in the Trump matter and concluded that he could likely be convicted of a crime. That’s all.

A trial still awaits. The accused defendant must be presumed innocent until a jury or judge determines beyond a reasonable doubt that he is guilty.

Nonetheless, it is a first official step in the long road to accountability for someone who has never before been held accountable for his nefarious actions.
