Clifford Freitas

Clifford Wayne Freitas, 71 of Honolulu Hi. Passed away on Nov, 10, 2022. Born May 8,1951 in Kau Hi. He was a member of The Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Union Local 675 for 50 + years. And a member of the brothers in Archery club. He is survived by wife Lorette Enos Arruda. Son Bryson ( U’i) Freitas of Kaneohe, Hi. daughter Melodie (Richard) Agbayani of Pepeekeo Hi. step son, Wayne Adam Arruda; step daughters, Sherriann ,Claudette and Caprice Arruda; brother Roy (Eileen) Freitas of Makawao, Maui; Sisters Rose (Leonard) Angay of Kona, Blanche (Steven) Angay of Mt. View, and Bernadette Kawailima of Keaukaha, four grandchildren, and numerous step grandchildren. A celebration of life will be held for him on March 25,2023 at Hawaii community health center. 74-5214 Keanalehu Drive. Kailua Kona Hi. at 11 am.

Roy Tanoue

Roy Takeshi Tanoue, age 83, passed away on Dec. 24, 2022 at his residence in Arcadia, California. He was born in Hilo, Hawaii on April 5, 1939. He was a United States Air Force Veteran and retired as salesman at Bewley Allen Cadillac in Alhambra, California and was formerly employed by Hilo Motors and I. Kitagawa &Co. in Hilo. Visitation will be held at the Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin Temple 398 Kilauea Ave. on March 21, 2023 from 9 to 10 a.m.; funeral service over his urn will begin at 10 a.m. Burial of his urn will follow at the East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2 in Hilo. He is survived by wife, Millicent Tanoue of Arcadia, California; son, Cary Tanoue of Pahoa; daughter, Chandra Tanoue of Hilo; brothers, Stanley (Ann) Tanouye of Honolulu and Gary (Susan) Tanouye of Hilo; sister, Jane (Richard) Takamatsu of Hilo; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one aunt; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. Kenneth Tome

Kenneth Kamematsu Tome, 97, of Wailuku, Maui died on Jan. 2, 2023 on Maui. Born in Kukuihaele, he was a retired office manager for the Social Security Administration and a veteran of the U.S. Army. Private services held. Survived by wife, Nancy Tome of Maui; son, Stacy Tome of Maui; daughter, Stefanie (Jay Arakawa) Tome of Maui; granddaughter, Natasha Tome of Maui. Walter Schofield

Walter Gledhill Schofield, 84, of Hilo, died Jan. 15 at the Hilo Medical Center. He was born in Norwich, Conn. and attended the University of Miami, worked as a boat captain for several years, then worked in the aviation industry for more than 30 years, ran other businesses, including consulting, exporting, owning a restaurant, and running a lobster business and traveled all over the world. First celebration of life and scattering ashes in the Pacific Ocean have been held. The second will be in the Atlantic Ocean at a later date.Survived by wife, Eleanor Rhinelander Schofield of Hilo; daughter, April Louise (Steven) Hladczuk of Philadelphia; step-son, Adam Walker Young of Santa Fe, N.M.; step-daughter, Margaret (Katie Cook) Young of Denver; hanai sister, Barbara (Robert) King of Danielson, Conn.; three grandsons. Donald Cordes

Donald George Cordes, 91, of Kailua-Kona, passed away on Jan. 18, 2023, at home. Born on March 3, 1931 in Oakland, California, he graduated from UC Berkeley in 1954 and for many years was Western Sales Manager for H.B. Fuller Company of Minneapolis. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Pearson of Kailua-Kona, by his daughter, Lynn Heney; two grandchildren and two great-granddaughters, all of California. Maria Batulanon

Maria Lourdes Castinaries Vocal Batulanon, 91, of Ookala, died on Feb. 4, 2022 at North Hawaii Community Hospital. She was born on September 17, 1930 in Ookala, Hawaii. She was a retired cashier from the former Nakahara Store and volunteered for the Ookala Community. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. on Mar. 18, 2023 at Laupahoehoe Point Gym; lunch to follow. Aloha attire. Kikuko Ushijima

Kikuko Ushijima, 93, of Honalo died Feb. 7, 2023 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Pahoa on Dec. 6, 1929, she was a housewife and member of the Honalo Kumiai and Daifukuji Soto Mission. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. March 25, 2023 at Daifukuji Soto Mission in Honalo; memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. The family requests casual attire and no flowers.
