Randolph Kula Ahuna, Jr., 92, of Hilo died Jan. 1 at his residence. Born in Ka’u, he was a retired manager of Industrial Steel Corporation and operated his family macadamia nut farm in Panaewa, and a retired veteran of the U.S. Army and Hawaii Army National Guard. Betsy Ann Ludwig, 87, of Hilo died Feb. 24 at her residence. Born in Hilo, she was a retired secretary for the ARC of Hilo and Special People Hawaii, member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church and St. Joseph High School Class of 1953. Private services held. Abel Medina, Sr
Abel Walter Medina, Sr., 85, of Hilo died Jan. 17 in Pearland, Texas. Born in Hilo, he was a retired Vice-President at Pacific Transfer and Storage and a veteran of the Hawaii Army National Guard. Ermelicio Miranda
Ermelicio Pulido “Mel” Miranda, 71, of Ookala, died Feb. 19 at the Hilo Medical Center. He was born in Badoc, Ilocos Norte, the Philippines and was a retired teacher at Honoka’a High School, and most recently the proprietor of Miranda’s Taxi and Tours, was a member of the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Parish in Honoka’a and was a musician who played at numerous Catholic churches from Hilo to Hamakua. Visitation 4-6 p.m. Friday (March 17) at the Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Wake service at 6 p.m. Visitation also 8-9:30 a.m. Saturday (March 18) at the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Parish in Honoka’a. Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the Homelani Memorial Park in Hilo. Casual attire. Survived by wife, Corazon Corpuz Miranda of Ookala; daughters, Michelle Miranda of Hilo, Merleen (Chad) Hedgepeth of North Carolina and Christel Mel (Sean) Vinluan of Kapolei; brother, Leonardo P. (Virginia) Miranda and Loreto (Julieta) Miranda of the Philippines; sister, Arleen M. (Napoleon S.) Kinue Ito,
Kinue “Anne” Ito, 93, of Keaau, died Feb. 18 at home. She was born in Hilo and was a retired salesclerk with the former Ebesu’s and was also a member of the Taishoji Soto Mission and it’s Fujinkai and Baikako. Private services were held. She is survived by son, Glenn Ito of Keaau; daughter, Audrey (Alan) Jyo of Keaau; brother, Hisao Shigeishi of San Jose, Calif.; sisters, Michie Kimizuka and Marian Tsurumoto of San Jose, Calif.; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Jean Martin
Jean Robert Martin, Sr., 87, of Waimea, died on Jan. 17, 2023 at North Hawaii Community Hospital. He was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on Oct. 5, 1935. He was a freight clerk of Young Brothers. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Born in Kohala, she was a retired school teacher and member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin, Buddhist Women’s Association and Hui O Wahine FCE.
