After a three-year hiatus, the 63rd annual Haili Volleyball Tournament will take place this week in Hilo.
Beginning Monday morning, the weeklong contest will host 113 teams — including 72 youth teams and 41 adult teams from the Big Island, O‘ahu and Moloka‘i.
Games will be hosted daily from each morning into the night at Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium, University of Hawai‘i at Hilo, Hilo Armory and Kwananakoa Gym.
The youth tournament will begin Monday, with championships taking place at 4 p.m. on Wednesday at Afook-Chinen. Youth teams will be divided into seven divisions based on gender, age and skill — with players as young as eight years old and as old as eighteen years old. The youth tournament will be single-elimination. An awards party with bento boxes will be held after the conclusion of the tournament.
The adult tournament will begin Thursday and the championship will be held at 10 p.m. Saturday, also at Afook-Chinen. Adult teams will also be divided into seven divisions based on gender, age and skill. An awards luau will take place at the conclusion of the championship.
