WAIMEA, Island of Hawaii—Thelma Parker Memorial Public Library of the and the Waimea Arts Council are partnering to offer free community art classes from 10 a.m. to noon on the first Saturday of each month, beginning April 1.
Artist Lorrie Taylor will launch the program on April 1 with Watercolor Coral Reef, and a new lead artist will be announced every month. In Watercolor Coral Reef, beginning painters ages 6+ will learn watercolor basics and beginner techniques as they get hands-on experience painting coral reef fish.
“My motive is to keep it fun,” said Taylor. “I want everyone to enjoy the process and to feel free to experiment and not be afraid of the outcome. That’s what learning is all about.”
Classes will be held in the library meeting room, with all supplies provided by the Waimea Arts Council. Class size is limited to 20 people and advance registration at the library for each class is required. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult.
“We’re very excited about our partnership with the Waimea Arts Council and we invite everyone to experience first Saturday art classes at the library,” said Pamela Akao, branch manager at Thelma Parker Memorial Public Library.
To register, or for more information, call 808-887-6067. The Thelma Parker Memorial Public Library is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, noon to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday.
