Beware when recycling electronics!
Beware when recycling electronics!
On February 25, there was a county-sponsored electronics recycling in Kona and among other things we took in an old cell phone. On March 3, Mr. K’s (who was contracted to do the recycling) was broken into and they targeted the recent electronics. Our phone is now at some hacker’s home in Paradise Park in Puna, and we’ve spent days changing user names and passwords to keep our finances secure. My suggestion to anyone thinking of recycling personal electronic devices on this island is to pulverized the device first.

Kudos for exceptional service
When I experience exceptional service from a business in our community, I want to share them with you. I was baffled by a “function gone wild” on my computer that prevented me from doing any communication at all: locking up my keyboard.
I took my machine to “808 Computers” located on the mauka side of the road to COSTCO, specializing in MACs and many other brands. A day after I left my computer with them, they found my hard drive was dying. They highly recommended a different drive, not standard fare with my brand. After convincing me the new drive was the way to go, I agreed. The next day, I had a “new” machine that was zooming circles around my original machine. Seriously: What took minutes to do before, was done instantaneously with the new hard drive, and all the memory was migrated from the old to the new drive. Finally, get this: They’re open 9 to 9, SEVEN DAYS A WEEK!
I apologize if I misspell their names, but Frustan and Rob, were the two technicians I interacted with the most often. I wanna shout out “HANA HOU” to all the guys and maybe some gals I missed.
