The Konawaena High School boys wrestling team claimed the BIIF wrestling championship on Saturday. Meanwhile, the girls team camee in second place.

With a team of almost 50 students and a mix of grades but mostly freshman students, the Konawaena wrestling team has been having an amazing season this year.

On Feb. 18 at Waiakea School in Hilo, the Konawaena High School boys shined brightly and showed what they are made of. The girls also did amazingly and ended in second place.

It’s the first time the Wildcats have held the BIIF title since 2007.

“Many thanks to head coach Rico Ventenilla for leading the team, and the amazing other coaches that dedicate their daily afternoons, nights and weekends preparing the kids to do their best and succeed and changing their lives forever,” said Dani Dahl, team mom.
